Our Mission Statement
The Madison Housing Coalition supports building more housing of all types throughout Madison, especially Missing Middle & infill housing where strong infrastructure and transit already exist. We call for more variety in housing options, so everyone is free to choose a home that fits their needs without needing to leave their neighborhood. We support affordable housing, creating pathways to home ownership, and ensuring everyone has a safe, healthy place to live.

Why Madison Housing Got Expensive:
- Madison & Dane County are booming, with a thriving university and strong job market drawing people to the area. Unfortunately, housing production hasn’t kept up.
- In 2016, Madison had 1.755 jobs for every home, above the 1.5 level that experts consider healthy. The last decade has been particularly unbalanced, as Dane County added 37,625 jobs but only 16,777 homes from 2010-17.
- With fewer homes to go around, families are forced to intensely compete for a shrinking pool – bidding up prices and limiting options.
